Hello,

I don't know if anyone here has had the experience of working with this item, but I want to port forward more than 10 ports which is the max that the current web firware allows. There is a com port on the back with a db9 connector.

What I am thinking of doing is telneting into it by using a cisco console cable which is the rj45 to db9.

Has anyone ever tried this, even with another SOHO router?

Tips and Help Will Be Greatly Appreciated, can't find Anything on this topic.

Thanks,

Upgrade to the Amit R1.94A firmware. It is a lot better
than 3com's stuff anyhow.

3com told me that you could access the device via the serial port but had no information as to what could be viewed or configured. the suggestions was to use terminal emulation program that comes with windows (hyperterm?) and a serial cable from the serial port of the pc to the serial port of the 3c510. they could not tell me if the cable should be straight or crossed (ie modem or null modem). there may be some more magic involved such as power cycling or disabling slip or something, as normally, the serial port is used to connect the gateway to the internet via a dialup connection, so how does it know when it is being used for console access and when it is being used as the wan port. i would like to know exactly how to access the console and the command syntax once you have connectivity

I just picked one of these up. The documentation states a null modem cable is needed to enter the terminal emulation.

I am having a different problem. I have an external modem I would like to connect to the serial port on the router. The idea is to use this modem for all three computer on my network. My problem is that I cannot get my computer configured so I can access the modem. (I'm using Win98SE on a homebuilt system). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
