I just got this switch and downloaded the 3com device manager but it wants the ip address of the switch in order to connect. How do I get this IP address? My DHCP is a Linkys router which is kind of limiting regarding the information you can get out of it.

Could anyone help please?

Luis

Use a console cable directly to the switch to check the ip. See the manual.

This guy came with no manual!!!! Could you share more info please?

Many thanks,

:)

Is there a way to find out the IP without connecting with a cable?

Most of the newer 3COM switch products have a default IP assigned out of the box, but you have to "know" how to decode it from the MAC address. This is covered in the documentation along with an explanation of the process. When you get the complete package, the included CD has a WIN discovery program that connects to the product and will tell you the IP and allow you to change it or whatever basic housekeeping is needed. This connection is made via ETHERNET.

So, I would recommend following paella33's suggestion and DL the documents from 3COM's website. Then post back with results or more questions.

Happy reading!
