Recently at one of our sister compaines the IT manager was replaced. The problem is the exec. that removed him did not get the admin passwords for most of the 3com switches, and this guy has vanished into the wind. Is there a method to recover these like there is on a Cisco?

You could try this.

You'll need a console cable (modem cable)
Hyperterminal 9600baud 8N1

If you it lost the password of the Switch and it does not want to lose
its time sending the equipment in return the 3COM, it is enough to
have access for the door has consoled with this

login and password below.

login: 3comcso
password: RIP000

It appears after that this message in the screen, answers [y]

Do you want to re-initialize this device (y/n) [y]:

If the reply it will be...

Done

Ok all the configuration and passwords of its Switch had been
extinguished and now it accepts the passwords standard of the 3COM.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

Yes, this worked for me in the past. I don't remember exactly, but I may have had to use a variation of the pw and did try both letter O and Zero.

You may or may not need to put a space in like this:
AT the same point try RIP 000 or RIP 0000, I'm sorry I haven't worked on these for sometime.

this worked out great for me, the username i had to use was 3comcso and the password was RIP000. In the password the RIP and to be capitalized followed by three zeros. Thanks!
