I am at the stage of buying 2 switches for replacing hubs on our LAN. I have a question regarding which one's to buy without reading technical overviews and rather get input from people who works with it on a daily base..

The 3Com 4400/24port and 3300/24 port is what I am looking at. They have the same price tag the one uses Layer4 and the other Layer3 switching.

Any suggestions?

layer 4 switching is usually a buzzword to mean certain applications can get more priority than others. Nice if you want to implement Voice over IP or allow games at work but not have them impact the real work.

layer 3 switching is often a buzzword a simple router, nice for internal use, if you have more than one subnet full of users. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
