I am trying to connect a 2816-sfp to a 2824-sfp. Both have updated firmware. We had an issues at another location were we had to update the firmware to connect 2848-sfp to 2824-sfp. These are connected via fiber thru the SFPs on the 24 porter end i get link lights and all is well. Then on the 16porter side I do not get a green connection light. Also on both ends i have tried the Auto and 1000 FD options. If i set to Auto i get no link lite on either end.

Any help would be helpful.

All I have ever had to do to make that work is open a console on the switch and navigate to the proper interface and type "undo shutdown", then save the config...

Just make sure that the tx is plugged into rx and vice-versa...

What do you mean by console? Ill have to double check the web interface in the morning and see if i see anything called a console

Console - connect via serial cable in hyperterm or a telnet connection.

I don't use the web interface for management, but I assume that the same options would be available under device/ports then make sure that the port is not administratively disabled.

OK thank you. But the Baseline Switch 2816-SFP or the 2824 do not have a serial connection like a Cisco does.

Sorry, I assumed they did as my 2948 did.
Check the web interface and make sure the port is not disabled.
all sfp ports I have used have been disabled from the factory.

For fibre the link needs to be crossed on one side.
What sort of SFP's are u using, the original 3Com?

Yes we are using the 3COMS #3CSFP91. As far as the FIBER it is crossed on one end.

Update. I went back and started over. I first tested fiber and found out the pair I was using was not work. So switched to a 2nd pair and that worked. Then found a patch cable that was bad and of course my only extra one is bad as well.

never hurts to double or even triple check your work

Glad you've found it.
