In preparation to upgrading to RLS 6.0 our vendor informed that we need to upgrade all 3900 series phone firmware to the latest versions. For the 3904 set we went to version 9.3. Ever since the firmware upgrades, I have phones(3904 sets) that loose their extensions and their programmed feature label keys. If I unplug and plug the phone in the extensions and labels reappear but the problem comes back a couple days later. The problem still occurs after the upgrade. I tried forcing a fw download(post upgrade)and that seems to make the feature label keys stick but the extension still disappears which unplugging the phone brings it back. Anyone know a good place to start on this problem.

Silly question, but is it a "shift" key issue? I seem to recall spending more time than I should have on a problem when all that had happened was that the shift key had been pressed and there wasn't anything programmed on those keys so we had a blank screen.

No. Not a shift key problem. The main Dn ext of the phone goes Away. Feature labeled autodials are on the 2nd page of the phone in some instances.

We've upgraded 6 sites to release 6 with 3 more to go. On all 6 we have upgraded the telephone firmware to 93 prior to upgrading the systems and have not experienced your issue at any of our sites.

Scott You mention the "shift" key issue. Could you eleaborate on that issue. I have touched a few sets and pressing the shift key has reset the feature label keys and wiped the extension.

This is a very timely post since I also experienced this today.

I set up 5 x 3904 sets on a CS1000E at Rls 7.0 yesterday. I have auto dial keys set up and yesterday afternoon I changed each of the feature keys to the label I wanted.

Today, 2 out of the 5 phones lost their key label names that I set up.

The firmware for the phones that lost the programming were 90 and 93. The other three phones that were fine had firmware versions 87 and 89.

When I unplug the phones, the key labels did not return.

Very odd.

All the shift does is go to the second "page" of keys. If you don't have anything there, the screen will be blank.

Key 00 SCR 5000
Key 01 SCR 5100
Key 02
Key 03
Key 04
Key 05

Key 06 ADL 16 555-1234

Key 6 would be on "page 2" (if I'm not mistaken). Hit the shift key, and you will see it. If you have nothing programmed on 6-11, you won't see anything - screen will be blank. That's all I meant.

...And looking at all this again, I think I misunderstood what you were saying was happening anyway. So, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...

Scott thanks for your reply anyway. Dabble have you tried to perform a force download to the set to see if the keys lasbel come back. I think this is an issue that results from pressing the "Shift" key but I have not found this to happen on a normal office type situation. 98% of my phones with this issue have keys on page two to interface with a dictation system. One hotline key to access the dictation system and 5 other autodial keys to navigate through the dictation system (record, Play, pause, etc,. I don't think its caused by communicating with this system but the shift key is used extensively on these phones. Most normal users don't even use the page two keys (keys 6-11). I'm going to try to revert some phones to old firmware to verify that firmware may be causing the issue.

I'm somewhat reluctant to download the latest firmware. In setting up this system last week with the 3904's and KEM's, I had multiple problems with the firmware causing problems withe the KEM's not working. I believe if I disconnect the KEM's then push the download it works successfully.

You mentioned downloading an older version of firmware - how is that done? I thought we could only download what the latest was within the PBX in LD 32 with FDLF TN#? Can we pick and choose which firmware version to use?

I have another system still on RLS 5.5 that i will use to push firmware to phones I connect to it. Then I will connect those sets to the main system.

I have seen this issue before. If you go into the phone menu and RESET KEY LABELS the key labels will re-appear again. Pretty sure the fix was latest firmware.
