I have two 3com 3900 superstack switches. Can I use the 1 Gigabit fiber SX interface on each unit to make the switches look like one big switch?

I have two switches about 400 feet from each other and are connected via fiber. I configured both switches to use port 25 as a bridge port. However, one switch (SW B) has its STAT LED green (enabled) and the PCKT LED is flashing yellow like it is sending packets. The other unit (SW A), the STAT LED is out and the PCKT LED stays on constantly when I connect the transmit of SW B to the RCV of SW A. I thought that maybe the fiber has problems so is switched the XMIT/RCV at both ends and still the same problem.

Thanks

Ken

As you may have read in the 3Com 3900 Getting Started guide, it appears that you have a bad Fiber port, or a
bad Fiber cable. You can loop ONE short Fiber cable from
the TX port to the RX port on the same switch, and if the
the port is working, you should get a link, indicated by a change in the Leds.

As for stacking the swithes so they both appear as one big switch, you can do that using the method you already are trying.

Found out that my fiber SX port had a bad TX LED. I had another identical unit and swapped it out and it came right up. WIll try to get it repaired.

Thanks
