All,

I am new to Teradata. We had a complex view, created in Teradata and a Business Object Report based on the view. Till September everything worked fine but from October if I try to run a query, Teradata's giving me the error : 'Insufficient memory for Plastic Steps for this request. - 3712'. Can some one pls. help me what has gone wrong and how to correct that ?

Thanks a lot,
Sarat.

Hi,
Did you upgrade DBS versions between September and October? Did you add more data? Did you upgrade the Business Objects software? The Odbc Driver?

There is a tunable in the DBSCONTROL program under.

d p

4. MaxParseTreeSegs = 1000

You can update this to a maximum of 2000 and see if your query can now be parsed.

Now this is a Maximum that a query could use. Most queries use a lot fewer Segments than the maximum but in a few cases where a lot of memory is required it is nice to have.

Now you might want to contact your NCR support services to see if they can understand why the query that used to work with 1000 segments now requires a lot more.

This could be a problem in the optimizer that needs to be fixed.
