I've just put in a nm-8am 8 port modem module in a 3640 which the Cisco web site says is supported in IOS versions 11.3 and later. I'm using c3640-i-mz.123-8.T.bin which I'm guessing is the problem. Anyone with info on the right IOS would be much appreciated.

My problem is, when the router boots it can see eight port analog modem-v2 as below.

smart init is sizing iomem
ID MEMORY_REQ TYPE
0000D8 0X00178610 Dual FE Combo Port Module, 2 WAN
000400 0X000139C8 Eight port Analog Modem-V2
0X000F3BB0 public buffer pools
0X00211000 public particle pools
TOTAL: 0X00490B88

but if I do a show diag I get unknown card as below

Slot 1:
Unknown (type 1024) Port adapter
Port adapter is disabled
Port adapter insertion time unknown

As well as this, I don't get any modem commands available when I go into global config mode.

thanks in advance

I think NM-8AM is\not supported by the IOS image that you are using. Assuming you require IP Plus feature set, try the following image and you will be sorted.

C3640-IS-MZ.113-10.T

Let me know how it went!

Cheers!

Hi sreid,

Check out the IOS requirement for the NM-8AM-V2. IOS 11.3 will support the NM-8AM, but you have the V2 (version 2) of the module which came out way after IOS 11.3 did. You'll have to find out what the first IOS is that supports V2 of the card. From the line of your current IOS, it looks as if you are running 12.3(8) which should support it unless it requires a IP Plus as gillm suggested.

Hope this helps!
