We are running IOS 11.2 on a 3640 router with NM4E (4 ethernet ports) module. We need to force the port connected to our ISP equipment to full duplex to match the ISP port setting. Our port seems to be defaulting to half-duplex. The ISP was at full-duplex and we got "late-collision errors". The ISP set their port down to half-duplex and the errors went away. We want to be running at full-duplex.

We had a similar problem at another site, we changed the port on our router (IOS 12.1) to 10-full (to match the ISP) - problem solved.

On this router, however, the full-duplex command does not appear to be valid.

Is this an IOS problem? or a limitation of the NM-4E card?

The syntax, under the interface configuration mode, should be "full-duplex". If the command does not exist you should probably need to upgrade the IOS to a newer version.

Yea, definately newer IOS, i have this module in a 2610 and it is capable of doing full-duplex via that command. I'm running 12.2.x

why are u still running IOS 11.2 on a high-end box like a 3640.. upgrade immediately, to 12.2...

good luck..

Just to let you know ... I found a Cisco doc that states that the duplex command was first introduced in IOS 11.2(10)P.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure that the "speed" and "duplex" options are set the same.
