I have a Cisco 3640 router with two controller E1 interfaces. This is going to be connected to an ISDN 30 line that I have just had installed with a FE interface connected to our internal LAN. Now all we are doing is allowing users to dial in via this router.

What I want to know, is how do I go about configuring the E1 interfaces? I have had a look on the Cisco website but got confused as they started talking about cas-custom commands and ds0 groups.

Can somebody please give me it in basic terminology as to what I would need to do?

Thanks very much

Daniel Bowen,

Hi Daniel, I recently configured a 3620 with a Pri ISDN using dialer profiles and the description in this link was a realy good help.
The above description only covers Bri's but it is faily straight forward to cover Pri's as well.
Another good souce of configs is
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, this is exactly what I would have expected to see. But instead of the BRI or PRI interfaces, I have two controller interfaces instead. Do you know if you configure the controller interfaces the same way?

Daniel,

The controllers work the same way as any other interface.. just more numbers ;-) You do need to specify line coding, framing, slots and so on.. it's not too hard..

See the following link which should get you going
