I am trying to make a defined tape drive available on AIX 5.2.

The tape drive is a 3570 Magstar.

Below is the error message I getting:

# cfgmgr
Method error (/etc/methods/cfgAtape -l rmt0 ):
0514-038 Error loading kernel extension.
# lscfg|grep rmt
+ rmt1 U0.1-P1/Z1-A5 SCSI 8mm Tape Drive (20000 MB
)
* rmt0 U0.1-P1-I1/Z1-A0 IBM Magstar MP Tape Subsystem
# lsdev -Cc tape
rmt0 Defined 11-08-00-0,0 IBM Magstar MP Tape Subsystem
rmt1 Available 40-60-00-5,0 SCSI 8mm Tape Drive

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Update your "ATape.driver"

I am using version 8.4.1.0 on my 5.2 boxes. You can check your version with "lslpp -l|grep Atape"
-wc

Thank you for your help. I restored a full system save with the correct drivers and the tape drive is working now.
