Im trying to use the port priority feature on a 3550 switch. When i try to modify the port that i want in forwarding state it doesn't show any logging changes on my hyperterm and when i try to "show span" nothing happens.

However when i try to use the spanning tree cost feature it did change the port state the way i wanted to.

Any Ideas?

using "port priority" affects the stp on the downstream switch (usualy change on root bridge), while the "port cost" will affect the local switch (usualy change on non-root bridge).

Yes that is correct, im trying to change the downstream switch, but i cannot. Anyone?

Thanks.

If you want the particular port to forward go to the downstream switch of that connection and make the spanning tree the root for that vlan on that switch .
on the downstream switch just add "spanning-tree vlan XX root primary " .
