I have two e-series 335 servers running 2003E on a APC Smart-UPS 3000 power supply. Here is what happens:

If I unplug the power the APC is able to power down the servers to full off before shutting itself down.

WHen the power is restored the UPS starts up recharges etc. but the servers do not restart.

If I unplug the power to the servers and hard shutdown the machines, the servers do restart when power is restored.

How do I get the servers to come back on automatically after a power failure where the UPS shuts down the servers first? BIOS v1.12 has no entry for last state or on power do... entry.

Ironically, the servers are coming up to the last state they were in before the power was removed in both instances (when you unplugged the UPS after it performed an orderly shutdown of the server, and when you pulled the power to the running server - not a good idea BTW)! If the x335s have an RSA or RSA II installed, or are interconnected to an RS-485 bus, then through IBM Director, you can configure an Event Action Plan to restart the servers when they're powered off. This can be done remotely, and somewhat automatically (considering the dependencies and pitfalls) once the appropriate hardware and software is installed and configured.

No more budget to pick up a management module.

How do I configure Wake-on-Lan to boot the server? I have it enabled in Bios and on IBM director but I am not able to start theserver from stand-by state.

What's between the x335 and the IBM Director server? Are they in the same segment and subnet?

Turns out apc sent us the wrong cables - they sent us cables for a linux box!

We'll be getting up later this week to try again.
