Is there any way to manipulate the 3300mcd licensing count without having to go thru the AMC? Just curious.......

I figured it would be possible because you can perform an offline license increase with just a change of a password number.....

It is possible to temporarily increase your license count by using the AMC to transfer licenses between systems. It is designed to allow this so that you can move sets from 1 system to another without having to buy duplicate licenses.

There is no way to do this without the AMC.

Can you confirm that you can only move licences on AMC from one system to another ONLY if the systems involved are allocated to the same customer.

I have had conflicting information on the subject. We had a customer where we bought back the system and wanted to allocate the licences to another customer but AMC said no.

If the licenses were attached to the controller by manually printing a MOSS sheet or if the "grace" period for unassigning the licenses has expired the licenses are "frozen" to the controller. The only way to unlock them is to buy a new ibutton.

You can shift licenses purchased for one customer to another once assigned. You can move licenses from one controller to another within a particular customer as long as the licenses were installed via download and not manually.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

Thanks guys.

The problem is that the licences were assigned manually "offline"

So I need a new or different I button and then reset the hardware ID on AMC

You do not need a new ibutton if you can licence online
Once licenced and synched the licences can only be moved to another system that is registered to your company

If you have a CXi or an MXe you can use the WAN port to connect to the internet and licence online if your network firewall does not allow access to the AMC

I believe if you do an upgrade that needs a new password, like going from MCD 4 to 4.1, and the licenses are freed up. At least at some point that worked.

@ Loopylou
Yes that will do it to as long as you licence online

Supernova 99:

Even if at one time you manually licensed if you do an upgrade requiring a new password those manual locked licenses are now available to be moved. Correct?

One other point:
Also there are some licenses that can't be moved, i.e if they are licenses that got migrated from a SX2000. Those can only be assigned to one 3300 and are stuck there no matter what. i.e they are not available as licenses that could be moved in the AMC. Also I think ( could be wrong ) that licenses that came with a controller as part of a system can't be moved.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

Hi Loopylou

Yes they will once again be unlocked after a upgrade with a online sync

Some packages (BOM's) include a number of licenses this are stuck to that controller no matter what

e.g. a Trunk gateway may well have 1 digital lik a IP networking license but no users as a package.
A future upgrade adds devices
You will not be able to move any of those licenses provided in the package, but would be able to move the added device licenses.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the insight

Sorry for the late response on annual leave. This is a 3300 CX on MCD 4.0

The SWA has expired so without spending more money upgrade is not possible. Also the original controller is faulty. That’s a whole other story no communication to LAN port just a blinking orange light when connected and cant ping it or wipe it.

Also bought as a SMB CX - Base Package so 16 of the 35 licences may not be of any use. I am going to try and use a spare controller reset the hardware ID on AMC and relicence on line.

It’s probably not really worth the time required to perhaps save 19 licences but will give it a go shortly.

Before you go thru the bother I would try the VLAN OFF command via the maint port.

yea tried that. I just get no indication of a connection on the LAN port.Tried changing system IP address back to default also tried to do a manual install of software using the FTP server on my laptop. No sucess

I have used my laptop to do manual installs many times so I am confident thats ok.

Mitel TS has suggested the chassis is faulty.
