Hi all

just a noob question, I run a small IT Business, and we have just finished building new premesis. I was looking for a small switchboard to do voicemail, paging, call forwarding, hunt groups etc, usual stuff.

Last week I noticed an ad for an auction for a comms company liquidation auction, so I went along and picked up 2 Brand new boxed Mitel systems each set comprising of a 3300CXi controller, 40gb Hard Drive, 2 5215 Dual IP Phones and 1 5325 IP Phone and CD Base Software, manuals etc.

I followed the manual, (please remember im an IT guy more than phones !!!) Installed the hard drive, and battery. Fired up the system, linked the serial port to a laptop, used hyperterminal to change ip address etc on bootup etc etc.

So i got the system fired up and into the web browser config etc and heres the BUT !, am i correct in my observation that these systems are virtually USELESS without the options licences ????

Can the 3300CXi have any functionality "out of the box"

I plugged in two ip phones, but there is a dhcp prob, they just sit there seemingly waiting for an IP from a dhcp server. do i need IP licences, how much they cost ??

before i spend any more time on this, is there any point ?, reading the posts Mitel dont really seem to give end user support.

If I end up listing these on ebay, what are they worth ?? *I only paid £70 each for them - ALL brand new sealed cartons)

Thanks in advance

Well, I think that you got a real good deal for the hardware! But you are correct in that these systems will not work without the licences. This is by design from Mitel as they are in control of the software. I would suggest that you keep atleast one of them and contact a Mitel dealer to get set up.

As for the IP phones getting a DHCP address, the 3300 can provide that DHCP, but there is no point as there are no licences to activate the sets anyway. If you have an external DHCP server, it can also provide the addresses to the sets.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

When you purchased the CXi controller did you get the sysid, as this is what the licenses are assigned to. if you don't have a sysid you will have to get in touch with a reseller and get them to provide you with a sysid once you have a sysid licenses can be added.

Hi Andy

Thanks for your Help mate

I have listed the item on Ebay, just search for Mitel 3300.

PS A guy wants me to Post the SystemID...is that safe to do ???

I hope u get this before the Sys Admin deletes it :D

contact me directly at tvman_us at yahoo.com. There is a chance that Application record in AMC still available and options password can be recovered
