So I changed the IP settings of the MCD and Gateway, then restarted the system. Now I'm unable to ping the new IP address. I plugged into the terminal and rebooted the system where I took a look at vxworks. The changes to the IP address of the inet on ethernet and gateway inet took hold. Not sure why I can't ping it or login to it. Any thoughts??

Thanks

Likely you activated the vlan settings.

Typically you do not want the controller sending tagged packets

Try connecting to the maint port and typing >vlan_off

That's exactly what I did kwbmitel. I'll try your suggestion in the morning. How would I change the IP address and enable VLAN tagging without making the same mistake twice?

Thanks

The best practice is to controll the VLAN tagging for the controller at the switch level by connecting to an untagged voice vlan dedicated port.

Set the vlan in the ip settings page to 1 and it will not activate

Got it. So after the system finishes booting up, connect to the maintenance port, run putty and get a blank screen. Then just type >vlan_off ??

Connect with the serial port (9600 N 8 1)
give a (few) enter(s)

You will get a prompt
-->

Simply type in

--> vlan_off (enter)

disconnect the Mitel from your network and connect your laptop/pc directly to de LAN port.

Tried that and I'm now getting to the login prompt. I can login but there are no forms in the left column. I ran putty, rebooted the system, and about a quarter way through the boot up, I'm seeing the VLAN tag(1500) I created with priority 6.

Haha! So now it looks as though my system isn't going to boot up. I'm thinking I may have to default the system.

I defaulted the system by reloading the software. However, I'm still having the same issue:I can't log into the system nor can I ping the default IP address. I also noticed that the VLAN tag still seems to be turned on even though I believed I turned it off by entering >vlan_off in Putty.

The command will not survive a reboot.
You need to remove via the ESM once you disable from PuTTY.

OK, but I thought the command, via putty, would disable the VLAN. When I attempt to login to the ESM, I get page cannot be displayed or something like that.

That's right, command should disable vlan and allow access via the web gui.
Can you ping the IP address after disabling vlan?

Two things. What is your system ? Cx/i Mx MXe? I do wonder if your hard disk is failing.......What default IP are you using? and are you sure the Mitel is on that?

I would reboot with serial cable connected to see what is happening.

@wireman50
System is AX going by title.

system is a 3300 AX
default IP address I'm using is 192.168.1.2. However, in the beginning, I changed my IP settings when I enabled the VLAN ID. Initially, the IP was changed to 10.80.245.2 but after I realized that I could not login to it using that IP address, I connected to the maint port, rebooted, and entered vxworks. There, I changed the IP address back to 192.168.1.2 and the gateway back to 192.168.1.1

I would use the installer manual and do a fresh install via this.

Always look out for the next tech. because one day it will be you!

I've done that jrgood0852, but I'm situation has not improved.

kwbMitel, the command you told me to use did work. I entered it incorrectly. The VLAN ID is now deactivated and I can now ping 192.168.1.2 and login to the ESM. I checked the IP settings of the system and the VLAN ID is 1500. Is there a default VLAN ID that I need to set the system to? I think in a Cisco the default VLAN ID is 01. Of course that's Cisco though.

Dude I owe you case of beer.

kwbMItel, disregard the last question in my previous post. You answered it in an earlier post. I should change the VLAN ID to 1 so it will not activate.

Thanks
