Hi,

Was wondering about phone spam or marketer calls to our inside DID extensions that are not published to my knowledge?

I know our Phone vendor: TDS - handed us out a range of numbers but was unaware how marketers get calls to our extensions unless they just scan ranges like spammers scan IP subnets?

I know we can trace an incoming calls now with our caller ID and read our SMDR logs.

More users are complaining about these types of automated scam/sales calls...

How can we blacklist or setup a block list of phone numbers to stop these calls from coming into our company?

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately in the US the official "Do Not Call" lists do not apply to business numbers.

What you're going to have to do is find out who is calling and then contact them (usually in writing) and request that your DID range not be called.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here is my opinion on this. We have the same issue in our office. With DID's and email's . I notice this tends to be an issue with our sales dept more than our engineering dept. My theory behind this is that in my company at least, sales and admin people spend a little extra time plugging thier work email and phone number into various forms on the internet. You know how you sometimes have to "register" to read a white paper or something like this. I have been with my company for a little over 2 years now. I dont have this issue with my email address and with my DID. Me being an engineer, I am always in demand. I have noticed once a customer gets your DID or cell number they will call you rather than call your support line. Therefore only my girlfriend and family knows my DID. My girlfriend is the only one who I recieve calls on my DID. Basically make sure your staff is not using your email addresses and phone numbers to sign up for free offers.

As with the Email Spam, whatever means you take to block the call will be circumvented. It is simple these days to change your calling line ID so blocking by number is useless.

for example, I had a call yesterday from calling line ID 000-000-0000, I answered out of curiousity only.
