301 Redirect not working in Safari

Hi, trying to setup http 301 permanent redirect in IIS so anything coming to general-trading.com will automatically get directed to

http://www.general-trading.com

which seems to be suggested for search engine optimization. Trying to test in Safari and keep getting error about too many redirects. Tried clearing cache and history on my I devices but same thing. Thanks, Joe

Hi, in IIS, I goto HTTP Redirect.

I have the checkbox checked for Redirect requests to this destination and in the destination field, I have the domain name:

http://www.general-trading.com

Then, I've tried different combinations on the other 2 checkboxes for Redirect all requests to exact destination and Only redirect to content of this directory but didn't seem to matter either way.

Lastly, I have the Permenant(301) option selected from Status code dropdown.

I see in Safari when I type in address without the www, it does change to be with the

http://www but

then the error comes up.

Well as BOTH "sites" are coming from the same server simply checking that box will set ALL the host header on that site instance to be redirected to that URI, which also INCLUDES the "www" version.

To redirect using the IIS method you need TWO site instances, one for the

http://www hostheader

to redirect to, and one for all other hostnames you want to redirect including the non

http://www version.
