Hello,

We recently upgraded to a cable modem for our internet. The company we have went through claims we must and have to use their router which is a SMZ Cable Modem / Router. We also have a Netgear Firewall Router and a Netgear Wireless Router on our system. Looking at the settings on the SMZ we are not impressed with its security features. We also have Windows 2003 server which we use to remote into our system. Here is the question I have and with luck your help may guide me down the right path.

I was wondering if I could setup the SMZ Cable Modem for a Private Network other than what we currently Use. IE 193.168.0.1 and then setup our netgear routers to run on a seperate private network ip of like 192.168.0.1. Then Make it to where the wireless is in line with the other netgear router and that one is plugged into the cable modem /router and pull only internet from it. That way we can still do our security on the netgear firewall router and not get in a bind.

Is this something that may be possible to do or does anyone have another viable solution. The main reason we are wanting to do this is because on the netgear router it allows us to assign mac addresses to specific IP's so that way our network printers wont conflict with another computer or visa versa.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
