I am being told by a networking group that Microsoft frowns on 3 node clusters and that 2 or 4 are much better. Is this true? We would really like to set up a Majority Node Cluster with 3 servers. Can someone point me to where Microsoft says this is not a good idea?

Thanks,

Marc

Scenario:

I want to create a 3 node Exchange cluster using MNC. Can I use MNC and then share out storage on one of the cluster servers for the Exchange data.

I don't want to use a SCSI device for the quorum because I have two sites about 150 yds apart.

Feasable???

the only thing Microsoft recommend, do not Active/Active 2 node cluster for Exchange, that's it. actually, if you look at Microsoft internal Exchange cluster, they implemnted 5+3, meaning 5 active/3 passive nodes clustering exchange server.

so, 3 node, u may configure as 2+1, which i personally believe much better than A/P 2 nodes.

MNC? Your choices are for shared disk are SCSI, FCP, or iSCSI. 150 yards apart? I'm guessing local quorum and iSCSI connect to the storage. What storage vendor?

I wanted to do a Geo dispersed scenario because all of the documentation I had read said that a local disk could be used for the quorum and I was under the impression that you could used NAS for the application data. No storage unit, just the drives on the servers.
