I have created a business view which outputs three columns and I have successfully set this in a report as a three-level cascading prompt which works fine.

I need to take one more step if possible -
can one of the upper two levels be set to allow user's to enter data? I figured this doesn't make a lot of sense on one hand, but I figured I'd ask (The dynamic pick list is about pulling data from a column, not hand entering it).

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

simplified example:
prompt 1 shows items from a country column
prompt 2 user can enter string for part of a state name, using wildcards if needed
prompt 3 list of cities is then shown based on the two factors above.

possible?

To the best of my knowledge Dynamic Prompts cannot be hand entered. By definition, they present a picklist of data from a column in a table and do not allow data entry (nor even the addition of a value to the list - like an * for ALL values ofr example)

we have added values like 'All', at least, via union statements in the business views, but I do imagine the hand entering of info by the user is probably a no-go.
thanks for responding.

If you must provide the functionality as stated, Consider a 3rd-party tool as a solution (for a list of such tools, see
My DataLink Viewer allows you to provide this type of functionality because it provides its own implementation of dynamic & cascading parameters. It uses .rpt files to render the dynamic parameters. Since these .rpt files can, in turn, have their own dynamic or static parameters, you are free to mix & match and parameter types at any point.
