3 Drives with bad clusters

I've now had 3 drives get bad clusters in a month on the same computer. I upgraded to an Intel 845BG motherboard with P4 1.6GHz processor with and used a WD 60GB HD I had for 8 months. After a month I started to have problems with the C: partition and found bad clusters. Reformated and reisntall everything. A few days later more bad sectors. Tried it again, more bad sectors. I bought a new 80GB Maxtor D740X-6L, a month later recieved bad sectors again. Got a replacement from Maxtor and 2 days later (today) again more bad sectors. The main problem is the bad sectors prevent booting so I have to reformat and reinstall. I put the current bad drive in another computer and it says there are bad sectors. Anyone got a clue why this may be happening? Could it be the motherboard IDE controller?

I just wanted to know that everytime when u found a bad cluster in ur HDD,even the new one,did u used the same operating system CD u had if yes then change the OS by using some different CD or an different OS will solve ur problem.It seems to be a foolish solution,but when i had the same problem my problem was solved.try ur luck

yeah otherwise your motherboard or powersupply or something must be toasting the drives. havnt seen this really before.. FatesWebb

Yes, it can be the HD controller. I've resolved issues like this by either going to an offboard controller or by doing a low level format of the hardware. But I've also junked out hard drives that just didn't want to work. Ed Fair
