I have been reading a 3.0 backup to a 5.0 can not be done. If the 3.0 processor was upgraded to 5.0, does it save all the settings? And could i then backup the upgraded module to the brand new 5.0 module?

Yes, when you flash upgrade an ACS, the programming database is converted to the appropiate level at the same time. If you then back up your just upgraded system, that card can be used to restore another ACS of the same release.

The backup/restore that is shipped with new R5 ACS's is actually an R5 upgrade card. But the processors are already R5, so the first time you power up the processor with the card inserted, you are using up the upgrade capability of the card.

I recently had a couple of cases of intalling new R5s to replace R1.1's that were going back to the leasing company. The customer wanted everything to be the same as before when the equipment change was done. So we flashed their 1.1 to an R5, backed up the programming to the card, restored it to the new processor, and send a newly upgraded R5 back to the lease company!

Do the R5's come with the Remote Programming card also?? Is this the same card as the BAck-Restore that is included????

The PC card that ships with the R5 does three things:

The first time it is powered up in an ACS, it is an R5 upgrade card (not necessary if the processor is already an R5)

It also contains the modem on Ext. 76 for remote programming.

It is also the backup/restore card.
