Assuming the disks can be made a RAID5 array, yes, you can do that and add the logical device (the hdisk) that is the new RAID5 array to the datavg volume group or use it to create a new volume group.
Once you add the new array to datavg, you can extend an existing logical volume to that new array, or create a new logical volume on the new array. The new logical volume will belong to datavg.
I suppose you could also add the array to rootvg (depending on how large the array is, and thus, the size of the physical partitions on the array), but I do not recommend that at all.
