I have a AMD K6 II 400 CPU - 320 Megs Ram - Windows 98 SE

My M Board has an AGP slot - The bios says AGP 2X enabled.
Im looking at getting the - NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 32 MEG 4X AGP video card. My question is - will this card work in a 2X slot. Ive read that this card is a 2X & 4X compatable card but i dont know this for sure. Cant seem to find anything on the NVIDIA web site.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Terry

I forgot to put that this is a DFI K6BV3+ main board with the VIA MVP3 Apollo AGP chipset.

Thanks in advance :)

As long as the voltage matches between the card and the USB slot (which it probably does) and the slot is the right type, you shouldn't have a problem. I would find the stats for both to make sure.

Most 1x and some 2x slots used a different voltage setting (3.3V) while newer AGP slots use 1.5V for AGP4x or 0.8V for AGP8x.

This will give you an idea of what kind of slot you have:

These 2 sites have more information about backwards compatibility:

Some but not all AGP4x cards are backwards compatible with older slots that used 3.3V. It was up to the manufacturer whether they enabled the interface to run at a higher voltage. However, you can't have it the other way around. An AGP 1x or 2x card that runs at 3.3V most certainly will not run in a newer board with AGP 4x, and could possibly damage the slot for good!

I put the very same card in an old 1X/2X mobo and it runs at 2X just fine.
