2Wire filter as "splitter"?

Seems to me these 2Wire brand DSL filters (that are typically used at each station) can be used instead at the NID or entry point and rigged up as a splitter, thus eliminating the need to filter each station. The output of the filter is pure dialtone, sans DSL frequency, right? So couldn't the NID be rigged so that the DSL ckt is on TWO mods, then wire one station pair to mod #1 for the modem, connect the filter to mod #2, and plug a piece of short mounting cord out of it and bean its red-green to another pair for the stations? That way, I've split the circuit at the source and can dump all the individual filters. I've been buying separate Keptel splitters & housings for this, but wouldn't the above be the functional equivalent? I know it would be cheaper for sure!

If you are a long run from the Telco Co. it's a good way to do it because you have a 1/2 db of lost for each filter you have on the line. I have had to home run the modem and put one filer on in the NID and still only had 10dB NM.
