Hey

I run Windows XP.

I have just added a second video card and have managed to get both monitors displaying images and the mouse would travel from one screen to the other OK.

My problems are :

1 The second monitor does not display the taskbar.
2 I can't view applications on the second monitor.
3 When trying to connect to the internet (56K modem!) my PC freezes.

I think this relates the PCI slot I inserted the second video card into as I have had "freezing up" problems before when trying to install a network card.

Can anyone enlighten as to installing video cards / correct PCI slots.

My motherboard is a AM75-EC/TC, I have a NVIDIA G Force2 video card for my main screen and an old SVGA video card for the other monitor.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know which slot you are using - but don't use the slot next to the AGP card. It often causes problems like you describe if you do. If possible I would try it in the slot that is furthest away.

Hi KimLeece

Thanks for your feedback.

I have moved the video card to PCI slot 1 and can now dial up OK without the PC freezing up on me.

The mouse moves between screens OK but I cannot view any applications in the second monitor. :-(

When starting up the PC the boot sequence appears on the second monitor, but when windows kicks in it reverts back to the main monitor. Kinda wierd aye !!

Not sure if anyone can enlighten but it's fun having a play to see if I can get this thing working !!

Cheers

Hi Kim

Yep the "Extend my desktop onto this monitor" is ticked . . .

Good thinking about dragging and dropping but that didnt work . . .

I'll have to do some more research. My father in law is a network guru so might ring him !!

Thanks for your help - it's appreciated

I've figured it out . . .

Found some help on a website.

To view an application on the second monitor you do in fact drag and drop, but the catch is that the application cannot be maximised on the main screen. Then you are able to drag it to the second monitor and then re-maximise it.

Yay !
