I've read all the other HDD Q&A, but none really apply. I have a Western Digital 7200rpm 80GB Caviar already attached and running fine on ABIT NF7-S MB. I bought an additional internal Western Digital 160GB Caviar for the extra space needed for video editing home pictures.

The 80GB drive has WinXp Pro installed and the 160GB is supposed to be the slave drive. I've adjusted the jumpers on the two HDD's to reflect this. I've also updated the BIOS on the ABIT board, as they have an easy to use Flash utility.

Having said this, when I boot up computer immediately after the new 160GB drive was installed, I went into the BIOS to see if it recognized it,and it did. So I exited and let WinXP boot-up.

As you can guess, the new drive does not show up in the "My computer" window. My DVD and DVD-RW drives show up correctly, as does the original 80GB drive. When I go to "Device Manager", it shows both HDD's. How is this possible, and, better yet, how do I fix this problem.

For the record, all parts are less than one year old and consist of Sony DVD/RW and Samsung DVD player. CPU is Athlon 2600XP+,Video is ATI 9600XT with 256MB ram, and Antec 420Watt PurePower Supply.

I have interchanged cables going to each HDD with the same result. One of the changes resulted in the system not booting into video, so I went back to the ribbon cable that came with the 80GB HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I've spent many hours trying to figure it out. Thanks!

Baywolf has it (with pictures) on his 'adding a mediabay' page. Just look at the pics and I think it will become clear!

Satrow,

Please send me the link to Baywolf's page you mentioned above. I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

Steve

Try going into control panel-->administrative tools-->computer manager and look for "Disk Management" tab. See if it shows up there.
