I have a compaq computer which only has space for one hard drive. But I have one of those things that you can put in one of the bays where you put CD roms that lets you put in and take out a HD. But that is at the top of the computer, while the primary HD is at the bottom and my cable can't reach both. I even bought a 24 inch cable but that doesn't help much either. So how exactly do you go about installing a HD that you can slip in and out one of the bays?

Do you plan to boot of the 2nd hard drive? Do you have a cd player installed?
If you are using the 2nd hard drive as extra storage space you can connect it to the same cable as the cd rom. Just make sure you check the jumpers at the back near the ribbon cable, one of the devices has to be set for a master and the other has to be set as a slave.
If you plan to boot of the new hdd then let me know.

Im booting from the 1st drive. The 2nd drive is set as a slave. I have two cd players installed and the thing that lets you slip a HD in and out is inbetween them. It's just that the drives are kinda far from each other in the case and the cable isn't long enough to plug into them both.

Can you explain your hardware status to me again. The way I figure it, the 2nd hard drive in going into the removable bay as a slave and is going to be used as storage, yes?. If yes then my comment before still applies, why dont you slave it to the cd player that is set as a master. So your final setup should be, 1st hard drive as primary master, one cd player as a primary slave. The other cd player (???) as your secondary master and your 2nd hard drive (removable bay) should be your secondary slave.
Hope that is a bit clearer and I'm sure all the plugs should reach their respective areas.

Yeah just storage. I didn't know I could slave it to a cd player. But how would I go about doing that? I figured it needed to be hooked up to the part of the HD cable that goes into the 2nd HD which can't reach that far up. I can either get the cable to go into the 1st or 2nd HD but it isn't long enough to hook into both since one is near the bottom of the tower case and the other is near the top.
