Well i started to get the idea that i might want to reinstall XP pro on my system. Since i'd been thinking about it for a while i started to take the time to move important files over to my 2nd hard-drive. After formatting and reinstalling the 2nd hard-drive wouldn't show up and in the device manager the drive's status is 'Foreign'. I've scanned the hard-drive to make sure its ok and it passed. I cant think what else to do but find some data recovery software and try and get some stuff off it.

1st drive - western digital 80 gig - xp pro - NFTS
2nd drive - western digital 160 gig - NFTS

ok somehow your drive has changed from basic to dynamic(foreign) but all is not lost. The data remains on the drive after conversion from basic to dynamic but not the other way round. As for retreiving the data im not sure but try pluging the drive into a different pc and transfering the data over then format the drive using the same different pc,which should convert it back but all data on drive will be gone.
