Hi All

Is it possible to install a 2nd exchange server on a member server within a Small Business Server 2003 active directory environment?

Scenario:

Headoffice is running SBS 2003, branch office wants all emails to be physically located at branch office, not sitting at headoffice.

It was suggested that a windows 2003 member server with exchange 2003 be installed at branch office, and the mailboxes for branch office employees moved to this server.

Is this possible within an SBS environment?

Thanks for any help.

I believe so but you would be better checking in the SBS forum itself.

However if you have a reasonable speed link between HQ and branch I would NOT recommend installing a 2nd XC server. Especially for what can only be a total of 75 users between the offices.

Never had any real problems with cached mode for Outlook 2003 as long as the mailboxes didn't get too big.

Yes you can have as many Exchange servers as you want but don't move the FSMO roles or the SBS will shut itself down.

For a branch office I would recommend Outlook Anywhere is cached mode. Should be ideal unless the office is huge and the Internet connection is poor.

By all means stick a DC in the branch office and use that as the file server (suitably configured of course) as you'll then get them all logged on quickly in a morning.

Awesome, thanks for the responses Guys. Much appreciated.
Was under the impression that a second DC could not be added in SBS environments, but after checking Zelandakh's statement I've learnt that I can.
