2nd Attempt not running

Getting this problem on a particular NT server under NB 3.4.1 where the first attempt to backup fails (Status 13: file read failed) and then when the 2nd attempot kicks in, nothing happens - the details under activity monitor is blank, and remains so. Doesn't happen all the time, but seems to be getting more regular!

Any ideas anyone??
