Hello

I have just been tasked with taking care of our windows 2000 server. I feel confident at client side networks but I’m a bit out of my depth with server side.

There are two servers – one running Windows 2000 and the other is an ISA server. I have been asked to install a VNC, allowing traffic through to another office on a totally separate server network. I need to open quite a few ports for other software to work and need help in doing so.

Could someone please advice how I open the ports please?

Thanks for any help offered.

Joe

Do you mean a VPN between offices? If so then all you need is a couple of VPN routers. If that is that case the a Netgear FVS18 router will do the trick. It would be best to have a static IP at each site.

Ok so you want to others to access the servers remotely why not Use Terminal Services. In VNC though you can specify what ports it will listen on but as for multiple connections to the server it won't be able to be done. Being this is a 2000 server Terminal Services is your better option being licensing is unlimited with XP and 2000 clients.

Thanks dberg - some great responses. Could you advice as to how I open ports 5678 & 80, 5900 & 5901 using an ISA server?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the link - I'll have a play when I get back in.

Thanks again.
