Does anyone know why on my windows 2000 machine all the other 2000 machines can be seen in my network places but the windows 98 machines cant. because of this it wont let me share the printer. Ive got file sharing etc set to on.

Any help much appreciated.

Dan

You need to add the Domain name in the "Workgroup" description to get a network browse-list from Win98, and you also need to have "Client for Microsoft Networks", and File & Printer sharing enabled.

Check that stuff first..

Good luck!

i've already done this. its actually a peer to peer workgroup but it is part of the same workgroup and file and print services are set up. i can see the win 2k machine in network neighbourhood on the 98 machine and connect to the shared files but cannot see or use the shared printer.

When you click on the file and print sharing button on tcpip properties are both boxes checked? James Collins

Hmm..

Is this a USB printer? Also, make sure the printer name does NOT have any spaces. There are issues with Win98 and this.

It sounds like an NT box is your best overall bet though..

Sideswipe,
This has nothing to do with the post but is your name a TF reference? James Collins

thanks for the replies

both boxes are checked

the printer is a brother 2500

its not a usb printer

the naming is fine

the 98 machine can see and use the brother 1030 (connected to a win 2k machine)on the network fine its just this one that it cant see.

The fact that i can see/use the 1030 from the 98 but not the 1250 is the bit thats confusing me.

i dont think the article applies to me.

whats a tf reference?

dan
