Hi,
I have a 2950G-48 I bought on e-bay.
I have tried to reset it back to default using the Cisco recommended method, flash_init and load_helper, but when I try to dir the config.txt I get a message "unable to stat config.txt/: permission denied" and returned to the switch prompt.
Any help please?
Thanks,
Nick.

After dir flash: do you see config.text? If so, then...

switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old

Do you get an error when doing this? If so, then

switch: more flash:config.text

this will display the contents of the startup config.

If renaming the config.text works, then you boot. When it comes up, you rename the config.old to config.text, and copy it to system. Then you erase start, and then delete flash:vlan.dat, then reload.

Hi Burt,
No, I get not file listings at all, just "unable to stat config.txt/: permission denied".

Uh, what about

switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old

or

switch: delete flash:config.text

or

switch: more flash:config.text

Tell me the output of ALL of these commands---copy and paste exactly what it says!

Thanks Burt,
I think that's cracked it. Maybe I was using the DOS convention .txt instead of .text

I'm new to Cisco, but have been contributing on the Avaya Definity forum for years.
Have more than a few of the little pink chappies myself.
