Hello everyone,

I am about to retake 291 again soon and I came across a transcender 2003. There is a question on the cd I have that I keep getting wrong, but I think it is wrong. So I am going to place the question here to see if I am correct.

You are responsible for configuring your company's remote access server, with is running Windows Server 2003. The computers that authenticate to the remote access server run Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or Windows 98. The computers running Windows NT Workstation 4.0 have been updated with SP 6a. The computers running Windows 98 have been updated with SP 1. None of the computers on your network use certificate-base methods for authentication.

You want to configure your remote access server with the authentication mothed or methods that can be used to authenticate all of the computers in your company that connect to your remote access server. Authentication data and connection data should be encrypted. Unauthenticated access should not be allowed.

Configure the authentication methods for your remote access server on the Authentication Methods dialog box.

Choose all that apply.

Extentedable Authentication Protocol (EAP)

Microsoft Encrypted Authentication version 2 (MS-CHAP v.2)

Microsoft Encrypted Authentication (MS-CHAP)

Encrypted Authentication (CHAP)

Shiva Password Authentication Protocol (SPAP)

Password Authentication Protocol (PAP)

Allow remote systems to connect without authentication

My answer is MS-CHAP and MS-CHAP v.2

The test says EAP, MS-CHAP, & MS-CHAP v2

Which answer is correct? And do anyone have info on a good site to provide good insight to user authentication?

If I remember my VPN stuff correctly, you'll be using MS-CHAP and MS-CHAP V2 for the old crap (NT, 98) and EAP for the Win2k and XP machines.

Can someone confirm or correct?

But the question says that no certificates will be used, EAP is used in conjunction with certificates.
Out of that list I would have said MS-CHAP and MS-CHAPV2.

Thanks guys for the responses, pagy I believe u are right, Mrdenny, I could not find anything to support your answer. But I will keep researching.

After doing a little poking around, I stand corrected. EAP uses certs for it's connection. MS-CHAP v2 is used for the Windows 2000/XP machines with MS-CHAP being used for the legacy machines.

Sorry for the bunk info.
