We have a site with a 2811 router, connected via a 3G HWIC registered on the Sprint network. The area has good EVDO coverage.
We are experiencing several interface drops every day. I tried to find any info online that would reflect what a good indication was from the router, but have not seen anything. I cannot tell if what we are seeing is good or not. I am a radio/wireless guy, so the first thing I did was replace our 3dB gain antenna with a higher gain unit, and moved it away from the metal building to gain better reception. The EVDO RSSI of -86 should be more that sufficient to support reliable communications.
Here is the current output from the show cellular radio command after the antenna was replaced:

Radio Information
=================
1xRTT related info
------------------
Current RSSI = -92 dBm, ECIO = -7 dBm
Current Channel Number = 350
Current Channel State = Acquired
Current Band Class = Band Class 1

HDR (1xEVDO) related info
-------------------------
Current RSSI = -86 dBm, ECIO = -6 dBm
Current Channel Number = 325
Current Band Class = Band Class 1
Sector ID (Hex) = 0084:0AC0:0000:0000:0000:0011:9200:005E
Subnet Mask = 100, Color Code = 146, PN Offset = 148
Rx gain control(Main) = -83 dBm, Diversity = -104 dBm
Tx total power = -14 dBm, Tx gain adjust = -3840 dBm
Carrier to interference (C/I) ratio = 0

Can anyone provide some insight into what a “good” 3G connection would look like, and what is a minimum requirement for normal operation? If not, anyone know of a good resource for info on the 3G HWIC?
