I have enabled trap logging on a Cisco 2801 router (OS 12.3(8)T6) to a linux syslogd. I have done the same recently with a PIX515.
The problem is that I am not getting any informational (6) level msgs even though "logging trap informational" is set. I do get the lower level msgs in the syslog file.
On the PIX with the same setup, I get a bunch of informational (6) msgs that allow me to analyse the traffic going through the device.
Since I have rechecked and tested the syslog config and the 2801 log commands so much, I wonder if maybe the 2801, being a router and not a firewall like the PIX just does not generate any informational (6) level msgs.
logging count
logging buffered 4096 notifications
no logging console
logging monitor notifications
logging trap informational
logging facility local4
logging 192.168.20.9
