After replacing our 2620s with 2621XMs, RME 3.4 shows these as SNMP devices, vice Cisco 2600 routers, in the device lists. The rtr2600 package is installed for 2620s/2621s but no mention of the XMs. I tried Cisco's site but no answer. Do I need a new Package Update for the XMs? Thanks.

Denny,

This is a common problem that has been recognized by Cisco. The reason I know this is that I had the same problem after installing a patch for ciscoworks. What you will need to do is go to device manager>Administration>Package Support Updater>Delete Packages and delete the package for the 2600 series routers. Usually named Rtr2600. Then the second thing you will need to do is delete the package from the staging area also located in the same directory. Once you delete both packages from the two locations do a search with Windows for rtr2600. Delete all the zip files that you find. Do not delete the folders just the Zips. After you delete all instances of this you will need to add packages and re-add the package for the 2600 series routers. I had to do this several times before it took affect and showed the device as a router versus a snmp device. The way to check to see if the package took affect is to go to Server Configuration>Application and Versions on the right click on the link for "Inventory Manager" and look for the device in question such as Router 2621 and make sure that on to the right of it that it does not say Generic SNMP device and instead has a number string to it. Let me know if this works.
