Hello

My Brother is not able to log in for some reason so he called me to ask if I could ask a question here about his lab

According to him he was trying to upgrade his IOS on a 2620 router but the upgrade failed do to some error, I believe that there was not enough space available, the router rebooted and that was it, now the only promt he gets is the rommon> promt on boot up...

Of course he did not back anything up as always. any suggestions?

May be the file got corrupted whilst uploading.Try to upload it again with the "tftpdlnd"
Here's the link:

If it doesn't work because the source file is bad.Try to get a small IOS from somewhere,once the router is up and running try to get a good IOS from Cisco,if you have a CCO account.

he just emaild me that

Minue, He tried what you suggested but comes up as empty

rommon 1 > set
PS1=rommon ! >
?=0
RET_2_RTS=
BSI=0
RET_2_RUTC=0
rommon 2 >

nothing set

First off, no magic number means

A.File on flash is corrupt
B.Flash is empty

Second, nothing is set---so now you have to set it...

rommon 1> IP_ADDRESS=x.x.x.x
rommon 2> IP_SUBNET_MASK=x.x.x.x
rommon 3> DEFAULT_GATEWAY=x.x.x.x (address of computer)
rommon 4> TFTP_SERVER=(same as gateway---same subnet as router)
rommon 5> TFTP_FILE=(IOS file)
rommon 6> tftpdnld

When setting all the above info, it is case sensitive (follow what I typed).

More info...
