Hi

We have a 2620 in a remote office connected to a 2MB line presented as serial and is connected to a serial WIC.

We recently installed a 10MB line that's presented as ethernet, if we source a ENET WIC is it as simple as pluging in the new WIC and connecting the ethernet cable or is there much install/ config involved? (Our VPNs are managed by our ISP if that makes a difference)

If there is would anyone have a link to some information on it? I'm not familiar with the device but the guy who was has left.

Many thanks for any help

The WIC-1ENET is a layer 2 card...you may be able to set up VLANs, or at least set one VLAN up...hang on, let me look that up...be back in a sec...

Man, what am I thinking??? The NM-4FE is a layer 2 MODULE...lol

The WIC-1ENET is the way to go...for a 2620, in slot 0 (the one on the right, I think...):

router>en
router#conf t
router(config)#int e0/0
router(config-if)#ip add x.x.x.x y.y.y.y

x.x.x.x=ip address, y.y.y.y=subnet mask. If this is a private IP address, you may need to NAT/PAT, unless the ISP does that for you, or routes some useable IP addresses, like a /29, via BGP; if it is a public IP address, you'll want to secure it and nat outside.

router(config-if)#ip nat out

that is if it has a public IP address...is this Opt-E-MAN? If so, you guys own and operate the CPE, not the ISP? Anyway...

router(config-if)#no shut
router(config-if)#end
router#wr

post a sh ver to see what IOS it has, to see what capabilities it has to be able to secure that outside interface

router#sh ver

Isn't it "int s0/0" for WICs? Just checking, as I am in the middle of doing something sort of similar.
Oh and Burt, / of all evil... actually made me laugh. Thanks for that.

A WIC fits in NM-0, and it holds two WICs. There are several different types of WICs (WIC-1DSU-T1, WIC-1T, WIC-2MFT, WIC-1ADSL, WIC-1ENET, etc). If you have it in network module 0, slot 0, then it will be e0/0; slot 1=e0/1. For a WIC-1DSU-T1, the MFT (multi-flex trunk), DS3, and WIC-1T (HDLC), they would be s0/0 and s0/1. For the WIC-1ADSL, it would be ATM0/0 or 0/1

Hi

Many thanks for the reply and the config information, unfortunately I've just been told that we are required to buy a new router for the line so we won't be upgrading the existing one.

Thanks again!
