I have several backup tapes from both Octel 250s and 350s. Is it possible to review the messages on those tapes without restoring them to an Octel message server? Can the data be read by any other means? Are there vendors that can restore the messages and convert them to WAV files? If so, can the metadata about the message (sender, date, etc.)be recovered as well?

Thanks in advance.

The backup tapes have to be restored to an Octel 250/350 to reveiw messages. Once it is restored then messages can be converted to WAV files using either Visual Messenger or an OctelDesigner application.

you can not do anything with the tape unless you restore it to an octel. We have in the past done this on our lab systems and then sent the messages as .WAV files to the customer or networked them to their Octel the data on the message can be recovered if the octel was set to keep the date and time the message was sent and not saved
