I have just converted about 20 people from Nortel phones to the 2420/2410. I am getting a great deal of complaints relating to the quality of the speaker phone. Namely, it is too sensitive and picks up a tremendous amount of background noise. I myself have experienced this as well. The majority of complaints have come from our IT department which is noisier than our other areas that have these phones. Does anyone know of a way to make a change to the sensitivity w/out changing the quality globally? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Joe

They are "full-duplex" versus the old phones that were probably "half-duplex". Have yours users use the mute button when they are not speaking to minimize background noise.

I appreciate the response; this has been my work-around so far. However, some users are not happy about the change as they have had Nortel phones for around 10 years. This mute-on/off is another reason to inform me that they are unhappy with the adjustment. I was trying to see if there was an easier way to accommodate this without resorting to muting.

As an aside, I have just changed their extensions from 4 digits to 5 so there are already many complaints.

If they have to work "hands-free", suggest a headset, which while still full-duplex, does not pick up as much background noise.

or use a different half duplex phone. So much for advancements...

ON the 2420/2410, you can turn on/off the AGC(Automatic Gain Control) for the heandset, headset, and speakerphone. This turns the sensitivity of the microphone down so you would not pick up any ambient noise.

It has helped, but it just depends on the enviroment.
