24/7 software for aix

Hi,

we are currently looking for some sort of software whhich could be installed on our aix boxes which would either call or txt a mobile if there was a problem can someone reccomend a program plz.

Big Brother will do this with additional scipts and its free-ish !

basically want to make sure the box is available 24/7 and that the oracle process in running with a few other processes 2 would BB be suffiecent.

I use it to monitor my RS/6000 systems and it checks the following;

Connectivity
CPU - load factor, number of users, number of processses, uptime
Disk - filesystem usage
Msgs - error log entries
Oracle - Database processes
Listener Status
Check Alert Log for Errors
Check Backup log for Errors
Check number of indexes is correct
Check free space in database tablespaces

All is configurable - e.g you can have Oracle partitions 100% full with no warnings

Some of this is default, some from scripts on the ftp site

I don't use it to alert me as we have 24x7 users that do that

There are scripts available to send messages to pagers, txt to phones or even html to WAP phones

The choice is yours !

IBM has a product called Service Agent. It will dial home to IBM (If you have a support contract) and automatically open a PMR, or, it can page you, or send an email. It is highly configurable and free. You can monitor multiple hosts w/ this and send all output to a single management server.
