Implemented IP Trunks via CSI and G3I, site is fiber between but getting a BW Prowler error. Also choppy talk path but we are not showing jitter or packet loss on the trace? Should each site have its own Network region? If so why?
This is a good question. I have a remote site with a G650 using a point-to-point T1. No errors in the log, but people complaining of choppy calls and even loss of call. I'm considering setting up a second network region. Also, what is best compression for this?
a) what kind of routers or switches are there on both sides of the fiber link?
b) did anybody care for setting up qos?
c) separate network regions are not required but i do recommend to differentiate one site from another.
d) on slow connections, use bandwidth-saving codecs, such as g.729.
Thanks dwalin. But the data is all cisco and the IT dept did their Qos, I think this is the issue, not to mention I believe you cannot run pass-thru at 729 for the faxes correct? We only have 711 as the primary and only codec, so my thoughts are that the bw is filling up and we don't have any left? Thoughts?
On Qos you must have voice packet priority, especially if it is shared with data. If you do not have vpp then you will have packet discards on the voice side which will result in choppy calls. Packet loss on data only results in a retransmission request from the receiving side, we have to say "huh, what did you say!, same thing but it takes us longer.
You can run multiple codecs on each network region, use 729 for voice and 711 for faxes
