2250 transfer issues

We have a 2250 on an 81c.
When transferring calls, it is not releassing from the switchboard and means that the operator cannot nightswitch as there are still active calls.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to transfer the calls so they release, or to release them afterwards without dropping them out. Thanks.

i thought the operator always had to hit the rls key after transfer..
