How many pairs does the 2250 use?
I have run into a problem of not being able to run a 25 pair with a female emphanole to the location.

I do have a cable run of CAT 5 to the location.

Could I connect the 2250 correctly using the only the CAT 5?

Hi
you can use CAT5 for a 2250 we have one running it uses 2 pairs from the tnb ie tn 20 0 1 1 AND 20 0 1 2 then pump it throught your network to where the console will live

The console will do weird things one day if you don't tie three tn to it.it dosent get enough power typical install error repairman nightmare you also need a ground. but do what you want just remember when the console starts acting funny who told you. and if you don't beleve me look in the NTP they show you the proper way to wire the 2250 so it will work right...You to colin will have problems one day

i have heard all you said before, but this console has been here since 97 in fact there were 3 consoles, and no problems have occured at all.. we use 2 tn's only and 2 pairs...it is not the accepted method but works fine here, BT support this switch and there techy says that this method is ok.. Colin

Alot of it dependes on how far away you are away from the switch but you are right it will work and it will work for years and all of a sudden lights will come on and go off for no reason the console will die and come back on you will replace it it will happen again and then you will wonder why you can't fix it so just rember the 3 pr. you never used and the ground some day you will thank me.

Bruce
I hear what you say, and i will bear it in mind if we start getting faults etc on the console i will remember your words
Thanks
Colin Colin

Colin,

I agree with Bruce. Don't be suprised if one day you just start getting wierd problems. I used to service some Nextel sites, and this was common practice there also. Some were OK for years, others had problems right away. It is definately related to the following:
1.) Distance from IDF
2.) Number of TN's on the card
3.) Console should use the first TN's.

Like you said, at least now you know.

Thanks for your comments,
the swbd is about 10 m from the MDF
the swbd is the only user on the card
and it uses the first 2 tn's
so far no probs at all, we used to have 3 consoles one was 50 m away.I know what you guys have said is correct, but it would be a major job to rewire it all, anyway this company has downsized alot lately and there is talk they may cease the console..
thanks again

JUST A FRIENDLY BIT OF INFORMATION. THE 2250 CONSOLE SHOULD USE 5 PAIR. THIS SHOULD ONLY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USING A 25 PR. CABLE. TRY LOOKING IN THE NTP IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. THE FIRST THING NORTEL WILL ASK WHEN YOU HAVE TROUBLE IS DO YOU HAVE A 25 PR HOME RUN CABLE TO THE CONSOLE. YOU USE THE 2 CONSOLE TNS ON W/BL AND W/O, 1 POWER TN ON THE W/SL AND THE OTHER 2 POWER TN'S GO ON THE R/O AND R/G, THE 2 TIPS GO TO THE RED ORANGE AND THE 2 RINGS GO TO THE R/G. YOU CAN ALSO POWER THE 2250 OFF THE AUX CABLE IF YOU HAVE AN OPT.11 SO YOU DON'T EAT UP TN'S FOR POWER. DO IT BY THE BOOK AND IT WILL SAVE YOU ALOT OF HEADACHES IN THE FUTURE.

Keep in mind that over time, wiring, splices, anthenol connections, jacks etc. deteriorates and causes systm problems not experienced before. On top of that, system upgrades, garbage data buidup, and on-going database changes can corrupt the working of the console. A reload every now and then can clean up some of the corruption built on the database. Just a little heads up.
