I get this error when i try to open a dts file. This has never happened before and it just does it when you try to open the file. I am not even trying to run the package at this point, just trying to open it. It has worked before.

Could this be a problem on my system. I'm opening it in Enterprise manager and running SQL Server 2000

Hi,

Is this the first time you've tried to open the package on that server? Does it still fail if you try to open it from the client?

Regards,
Tom

i'm trying to open it on the client. I didn't try to open it on the server. I guess i didn't think about trying that. Our server crashed a while back, after this i had to re-install everything on the server. i haven't tried to run DTS on there since, until now.

I've seen this when you are trying to open a DTS package that has an Analysis Services object in it where you don't have the Analysis Services client installed on your machine.

It can also happen if you are using a customer DTS object and you don't have the supporting object installed on your machine.

hmmm... well, i would have everything installed on this machine that i needed to run it since this machine that i'm running it on is the one that created it.

could it be anything with permissions in SQL Server? I'm just throwing that out there since i can't think of anything else.

Nope, it shouldn't be. When you open the DTS package it doesn't connect to the SQL Server other than to download the package.

Are you trying to edit the package in the SQL 2005 Management Studio? Or to you have the SQL 2005 tools installed? This can sometimes cause this error.

it's in 2000. i'm trying to edit in SQL Server Enterprise manager 2000. A side note - i do have the 2005 tools installed for a 2005 database that we have also, would that have any issue there.

It can. Apply the SQL 2005 SP1, then Appy the SQL 2000 SP4. See if that resolves the issue.
