While using our access 2003 database on two new laptops, we get the following error when attempting to retrieve certain records:

------------------------
-2147024770 :Method 'RecordSetClone' of object '_Form_frmRetrieveRecord' failed
------------------------

We believe that this is caused by the Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library not being set in the references but when we try to add it as an available reference we get an error message box:

--------------
error in loading DLL.
--------------

We then went into the control panel, add programs, and selected the windows office added all options in Access 2003, and then visited the Microsoft office site, downloaded and installed all updates, rebooted the systems and still we can not add this Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library reference.

We have other systems that this retieve function has and continues to work but these two new laptops must be missing something. We are running XP SP2 on all of these systems...

Can anyone advise what I am missing or how to fix this problem?

thanks in advance.

I don't believe that this MS Access forum is the correct forum for your problem.

It sounds more like a licensing issue to me.

Never argue with an idiot, he'll bring you down to his level - then beat you with experience.

I am not sure if it is licensing or not but I have uninstalled and re-installed office 2003 and still no luck...

Where else can I go to get an answer on how to fix tis problem?

As it turns out, I was able to fix one of the two PCs with this problem by registering the dao360.dll by entering regsvr /u <path>\dao360.dll

On the second PC, now I get a "ActiveX component can't create object ... Run-time error '429' and I do not know how to fix this one yet...

Thanks for the suggestion Remou-

I tried the advice on this link and found out that the msjet40.dll on my PC is newer than the latest one available as it was updated via XP sp2...

Still not idea what it wrong...

Thanks Remou...

I retraced my steps and got it to work..

initially i typed in the following ot register the dao360.dll:

regsvr /u <path>\dao360.dll

This time I typed in the following (without the '/u" and this worked:

regsvr <path>\dao360.dll

Thank you everyone for your suggestions
